TIM, Telecom Italia's mobile arm, made a profit in its first quarter.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation rose 3.7 per cent to E1.2bn, with revenues going up four per cent to E2.5bn.

In even more remarkable news, Telecom Italia's internet division, Seat Pagine Gialle, also did well, with Q1 gross operating profits nearly doubling to E27.1m.
