Handspring unveils PDA-phone hybrid

The ultimate gadget? Oh yes...

By Ben King

Published: 15 October 2001 16:35 BST

Handspring has unveiled a handheld device that combines the features of a mobile phone and a Palm organizer.

The two Treo communicator models are a combination of a GSM phone and Palm OS organizer with a built in keyboard, all no bigger than a deck of cards.

The wireless devices will launch in early 2002 and let users send SMS, surf on the internet, make phone calls as well as access all the traditional features of a PDA.

The Treo 180 has a built-in keyboard for easy messaging, while the smaller 180g lacks the keyboard for those who prefer to use graffiti messaging.

There are no PDA devices with mobile phone capability in the UK as yet so Handspring has a head start on its competitors.
