Online mapping company Streetmap is helping drivers dodge speed traps using their PDA.
Running on a PDA with a Global Positioning System card, the system tracks a driver's position and plots their progress on a map. The device beeps when the car approaches a police speed trap.
Users have to pay £24.99 a year for the service - considerably less, a company spokeswoman pointed out, than a speeding fine.
A similar system based on SMS is already popular in Norway.
The system also offers updated alerts about traffic jams and accidents - not, we hope, caused by people using PDAs while speeding.
