BT gets into bed with Deutsche Telekom

...and all the pillow talk is about 3G network sharing...

Deutsche Telekom has taken advantage of the relaxing of German telecom regulator rules on 3G and announced a network sharing partnership with BT.

The two heavily indebted telcos are hoping to save up to E2bn (£bn) by jointly taking on the cost of building and running German and UK networks.

Under the terms of the agreement, BT's soon-to-be created mobile division mmO2 and Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile units will share the network expenditure in the two countries.

However, Deutsche Telekom is not the only telco to use the slackening of regulations to its advantage. KPN's mobile operator E-Plus has a similar cost-sharing agreement with Group 3G, the German-based consortium owned by Spain's Telefonica and Finland's Sonera.
