Abbey National customers can now receive mortgage quotes and personal loan details via a WAP mobile phone.
Live as of this morning, the UK bank claims this is the first offering of its kind in the UK, with access available on the Orange and Carphone Warehouse/AOL Mviva portals.
Matt Young, spokesman at Abbey National, said: "The aim is to offer services that are appropriate for use on WAP phones not just pure internet access. We will offer our customers a tailored services to match their requirements."
Young said the bank is already looking to launch electronic banking next and by the end of the year will offer share dealing over WAP.
With security a main concern he said: "This will commence once 128-bit encryption is ready and not before."
WAP phone users can also log on to the system via wap.abbeynational.co.uk.
