Orange's quarterly results out today show the mobile phone company is holding onto its market lead over One2One, but that lead is narrowing.
Orange is the last of the four main UK mobile phone operators to release its results for the second quarter 1998. Its subscriber base now stands at 1.5 million, a rise of 132,000 from the same quarter last year. However, One2One is catching it up with a 160,000 jump to 1.3m.
The two companies still trail behind the market leaders Vodafone and Cellnet. Vodafone's sales improved by 20 per cent over the same quarter last year to a customer base of 3.6m.
