The RFID story shows yet again that the big boys never recognize a breakthrough new technology.

IBM and the other mainframe companies didn't see PCs coming, and Apple and Microsoft cleaned up.

None of the major computer or telecom companies recognized the power of the Internet until an obscure British researcher at CERN (Tim Berners Lee) created the WWW.

BT etc didn't recognize VOIP until Skype forced them to.

The moral is: small and innovative is beautiful. Big can only play catch-up.
