Game Group boosted by Xbox and GameCube

But PlayStation is still leading the way...

By Will Sturgeon

Published: 4 July 2002 08:47 BST

High street computer game retailer Game Group has announced a 34 per cent increase in sales.

The rise on the same period last year owes a lot to the increasing console war that is driving the games market forward. New additions include the Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox. While both have injected further life into an already buoyant market the runaway success of Sony's PlayStation 2 continues to account for a large share of sales.

Shares in the Game Group rose 8.5p to close at 125p.
