FTSE to launch high-tech index

FTSE International, the company that maintains the list of the 100 top shares listed on the London Stock Exchange will next week launch an index of technology and telecommunications shares.

Thirty-six technology stocks will be listed on the index, to be called FTSE TMT. Unlike other indices, TMT will contain as many of the FTSE 350-listed tech stocks that are traded through SETS.

The launch has already been criticised by pundits for bad timing
