Broadband beating the internet to converts
Fat pipe growth goes stellar

Britain's broadband connections are continuing apace - with the rate of fat-pipe conversions outstripping the rate of new connections to the internet as a whole.

According to figures from the Office of National Statistics, January 2005 saw a two per cent increase in new connections to the web, while connections made via broadband rose by five per cent during the month.

Fat pipes now make up 41 per cent of all internet connections, which have increased year-on-year by over 86 per cent.

Despite the ongoing substitution, dial-up connections still make up the lion's share of internet subscriptions at 59 per cent.
