Published: Thursday 17 August 2000
France Telecom and its British-based mobile arm, Orange, are to jointly bid for a Swedish third generation (3G) UMTS licence.
The companies will also join forces with Swedish mobile phone company, Bredbandsbolaget, and BTP Skanska to bid for one of the four licences on offer.
The Postal and Telecommunications Authority will control the allocation process and chose whether telcos will participate in an auction or beauty contest.
The licence allocations are expected in November.
