BT unveils ADSL plans for business

By Joey Gardiner

Published: Wednesday 28 June 2000

BT is set to roll out its ADSL services for businesses next week.

Despite newswire reports that BT is to delay the implementation of services, a spokesman for OFTEL said the implementation was going ahead as planned. He said consumer ADSL should come online in August, but that it was not scheduled for implementation at the same time as the business service.

ADSL will offer a high bandwidth "always on" internet connection at a flat rate, necessary for data intensive activities such as downloading software and streaming video.

BT also this week announced the government sold its last remaining stake in the company, a stake retained originally as part of a share incentive scheme at the time of privatisation.

BT announced the tariff changes at the Networks-telecom 2000 show this week.
