Personally I prefer landline and WLAN to the dongle solution! It is faster, there are connections available everywhere (offices, coffee shops, homes, libraries, airports, hotels . . . ). And it is cheaper! 3G cards do have a use for trains, remote areas and while waiting for customer meetings in car parks, but I always start with WLAN. WLAN also provides more granularity for emerging location based services.
