AT&T rues 'too effective' spam filter

Even the companies own emails go the way of the 'get-rich-quick scheme'...

AT&T Broadband customers in the US have been hit with surprise charges that they claim they were not informed about.

Customers complaining about the price hike were told they had been sent an email detailing the charges but many claimed to have no knowledge of such a mail.

It later transpired that all the customers who hadn't received the mail were using AT&T's spam filter which had blocked the email - detecting it as unsolicited marketing and consigning it the virtual waste basket along with offers of penis extensions, natural 'Viagra', weight loss schemes and debt consolidation.

A company spokesman told USA Today: "If there is a silver lining, it appears our spam filtering system works so well that it even deletes mass emails from our own company." Which is one way of looking at it.
