Storm Telecommunications has launched an on-demand international Ethernet service.

The idea is to allow corporate customers to send data to offices across Europe, only paying for higher bandwidth when it is needed.

Storm claims no other company offers such a service, complete with SLAs guaranteeing connectivity.

Meanwhile, network integrator Scalable has announced it will set up a Gigabit Ethernet-based metropolitan area network (MAN) and local area networks (LANs) for the Borough of Poole.

The contract is worth £300,00 and will make use of dark fibre installed during a Highway Department CCTV project. The networks will rely on Extreme Networks Black Diamond and Summit 48 routers. The MAN will be backed up by Cisco Megastream hardware.
