The chief executive of Time Warner Cable is to leave his post and head up the company's division developing services for interactive television.

The company is instigating a board-level reshuffle as it seeks a return on the $4bn it invested to upgrade its systems for digital data.

AOL Time Warner announced yesterday that Joseph J. Collins will be reporting to AOL's chief executive, Gerald M. Levin, who will directly supervise the business unit. The two have worked together extensively and are said to be personally very committed to the digital television project.
