Intel is stepping up its wireless Local Area Network (LAN) push with the announcement of PC Card and Access Point products, and the establishment of a development centre in San Diego.
Intel has made available its PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN PC Card and PRO/Wireless 2011 LAN Access Point. Both are IEEE 802.11b High-Rate standard compliant, and will first be available in the US from 7 August.
They are also fruits of the chip giant's partnership with wireless LAN and mobile device specialist Symbol Technologies.
Research house Frost & Sullivan forecasts the wireless LAN market, driven by new entrants, will be worth $350.3m in 2006, up from $120.1m in 1999.
Intel said it will employ over 100 engineers at its San Diego facility, which is in the heart of the US wireless industry.
