Franco German alliance formed in ISP market

By Lisa Burroughes

Deutsche Telekom (DT) has formed a strategic alliance with French media company, Lagardère, to merge the two companies' ISPs.

The deal brings together DT's ISP, T-Online's 4.2 million subscribers with Club Internet's 320,000 French subscribers. It gives the German ISP entrance to the second largest service provider in France and gives Lagardère a substantial audience to provide its editorial and ecommerce content to.

Lagardère and Deutsche Telekom will also examine the possibility of creating a 50/50 joint venture to develop further Internet-related services and technologies.

More to follow.
