Band-X offers cut-and-change telco options

ISPs and large corporates will be able to switch IP telco providers every month to make the most of cheaper rates and quality of connection through a service launched today by Band-X.

Band-X acts as a trading floor for global telecoms capacity and its latest service, Band-X Routed, claims to constantly monitor quality and pricing of all telcos connected to it. If a supplier is not meeting an ISP's or corporate's service level requirements they can immediately switch traffic to another supplier.

Chris Rose, director of information at Band-X, is confident there's no risk of bottlenecks should a supplier suddenly drop their rates. "We don't think it would take too long for the market to respond to an overwhelming rate change. But if it did the supplier making the rate change would have to put extra fibre in before making any market announcement."

Rose added although the number of times a company can switch supplier is currently limited to once a month, Band-X does hope to have an unlimited switch rate by the end of the year.
