IT integrator, Data General (DG), has won a £9m contract to build and manage a wide area network (WAN) for UK hire specialist, HSS.
The five-year project will connect more than 300 HSS locations across the UK. It will be controlled from DG's US management facility, using Cisco networking equipment and running over cable firm, NTL's communications infrastructure.
HSS IT director, Bob Brereton, claimed DG offered the most flexible contract compared with other contenders. Brereton said DG has agreed that HSS can change hardware and software suppliers whenever it chooses, allowing it to chase the lowest prices.
