Cisco Systems is to buy Clarity Wireless Corporation, a developer of wireless communication equipment, for $157m in stock.
A Cisco statement said the acquisition adds fixed wireless to its portfolio of broadband 'last mile' technologies, which include DSL (digital subscriber line and cable). The two companies have been developing wireless systems for integration into Cisco products over the past year.
Clarity recently showcased a 90Mbps microwave communications system, which it claims offers reliable connections over long distances between non-line-of-sight points.
The deal is scheduled for completion by November.
