NTL has set up one of the biggest Metropolitan Area Networks in the UK for the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education (BIFHE). The 70km network links the seven main campus sites, with 1,400 PCs.
The network uses a 100MB Fast Ethernet connection, with a Cabletron Smart Switch at each site and 512k Internet access. NTL intends to approach Trinity College, Dublin, with a similar model, a spokesman told Silicon News.
