Ascend Communcations has announced plans to acquire computer systems group, Strata, for $822m. The company plans to combine its own technology with Strata's SS7 switches, OSS software and fault-tolerant platform to improve the integration of voice, data and fax networks.
Ascend claims the switches and software will allow network service providers to stream communications more effectively and eventually lower the cost to users.
